According to a recent survey by Halifax General Insurance over £300m worth of items went missing on nights out last year.
- 2.5 million people lost a handbag or a wallet last year.
- More than half of those (1.6 million) have lost items worth up to £100.
- 510,000 have lost more than £300 worth of belongings as a result.
Advice given includes:
1. Never carry more than you need on a night out. Where possible leave expensive electrical gadgets at home. Only carry the cash and cards you need.
2. Always keep personal belongings in secure places. Try not to leave your items unattended, if this is unavoidable then always ask someone you know and trust to keep an eye on your possessions.
3. Keep your items hidden away. Keep your money and other valuables out of sight.
4. Keep loose items such as keys in zipped up compartments. It’s easy to lose items if they are loose in your handbag. Try to keep smaller items in pockets or compartments and keep your handbag fastened at all times.
5. Use handbag hooks in bars and restaurants. The majority of bars and restaurants now provide ‘handbag hooks’ they are there for your safety, make sure you use them but be sure to keep a watchful eye on your possessions and never leave them unattended.

Its such a pain that you get to loose all in one go. In a recent occurrance i lost my bag on subway and the worst part of it was loosing my mobile. It had all my schedules (synced with desktop) for the next two weeks. A friend asked me to try out zyb for safekeeping mobile data at least and it worked just fine. However i plan to carry a hip purse for valuables and keep only the usuals in my bag to be safe for future.

Yes, it’s fine having mobile insurance but that doesn’t cover you for the loss of the data/information and contacts on it. It’s always a good idea to take the minimum number of valuables out with you that you can.
